This is my trip when I was in Thailand for a month (6 August – 3 September). We arrived in Ubon Ratchathani Province on August 6, 2019 after transiting in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. Upon arrival at the airport we were picked up by Ms. Kanjana and Ms. Jarinda and we had lunch together at Tesco Lotus. After lunch, we went to our dormitories, Malay Mansion located at Soi Prachasansuk 8, then we rested and prepared ourselves for the next day.
On August 7, 2019, all students who carried out the PPL LN at Ubon Ratchathani University held a welcoming ceremony before we went to practice at Lukhamhanwarinchamrab School. The opening ceremony of the event consists of the Assistant President for International Relations and Education namely Professor Dr. Chalermchai Wongrak, delivery of information about Ubon Ratchathani University, submission of souvenirs, hope programs. Ubon Ratchathani University is very glad we came because this program can be a good opportunity to strengthen relations between the two campuses and participation in cultural exchange between Indonesia and Thailand, Prof. Charlermchai great hopes because this program can be accessed before leaving here and also waiting for the next program is expected to start more beginning of July.
After the opening ceremony, UBU invited us on campus and city to discuss about UBU and Ubon Ratchathani. We visited the city temple in Taman Thung Sri Mueang to pray and ask for help and protection while we lived in Ubon. After that, we visited Wat Nong Bua to get services and see the Buddha statue. In addition, we can see the architecture of giant pagodas and beautiful sermon halls. Finally, before we return to the hostel, we buy at Big C and Charoernsri Market and experienced our first trip in Songtaew, a small truck with 2 rows of seats. We are happy to be here

On this occasion, the school director, members of the administration board, and the head of the department gave us a very warm welcome. The school provides guidance on practicum programs and introduces each department where we will teach. In addition, we were invited to attend the ASEAN DAY event where we were introduced to all Lukhamhanwarinchamrab School students in the school hall and were shown Thai culture in the form of Thai dance and singing. The students were very enthusiastic when we introduced ourselves and they couldn’t wait we to teach in their class.
After that we were distributed by the Supervising Teacher to guide us during the observation, guided practice and independent practice in the class. I got a tutor named Mrs. Ploynarin Chancana, she was very kind and warmly welcomed me like her own child

There we got to know one of the Thai villages which is very thick with local Thai culture. Our first agenda when we arrived at the village was to gather in the hall for introductions, we played games to memorize each other’s names by mentioning the names of the people in front of us, after that we toured the village to know the culture in Ban Phu and make videos that would we present tomorrow. In the village of Ban Phu, we visited weavers, rice mills, oil producers and saw cattle farms there. - Pedagogical Contents
There were some teaching methods used by teacher, it depends on the subject and the teacher. There were direct teaching method, problem based learning, and project based learning. But after I observed, the teacher in Lukhamhanwarinchamrab School used teacher center method. It means that the teacher will explain the matter used media as power point, video, pictures, etc. When I observed, the teacher used teacher center in this school. Source of learning used by students were not only from given materials but also from provided books in class. Besides that, the source of learning is from internet too, students were allowed to bring handphone to the class. There would be an evaluation or practice after the material given or provided. Assesment process given by the teacher was usually a test form or a practice form in the end of the lesson. Not only that, there were other assesments such as middle test and final test. In addition to the provision of test and assesment tasks also carried out by giving project that would be presented by students as well as the result of discussion and question and answer students.
- Teaching Plan
3.1 Curriculum
Curriculum used in Lukhamhanwarinchamrab school was semester program which had been matched with Thailand Education system (World Class Standard School), therefore when I arranged a lesson plan, I had to discuss it with my tutor teacher.
3.2 Lesson Plan
In Thailand, the teachers always prepared a lesson plan as their reference before teaching. There were some differences between lesson plan in Indonesia and lesson plan in Thailand. In Thailand, the lesson plan was simpler and more detail than lesson plan in Indonesia. However, the structures were generally the same, consists of preface, core activity, closing.
- Teaching Practice
4.1 Teaching Prosedures in the Classroom
Teaching prosedure in Lukhamhanwarinchamrab school was typically the same with the teaching procedure in Indonesia. There were 3 procidures, preface, core activity, and closing. The procedures are explained as follows:
- Preface
In preface, I opened with greeting, cheecking students’ attendant, asking for assignment, then explaining material that would be discussed in the ongoing lesson
- Core Activity
In core activity, I firstly explained the theory of material that would be delivered. Next, I gave the students tutorial and guided the students to participate in the tutorial I given. In this stage, I allowed students to ask freely if they have a question.
- Closing
Before ending the class, I re-checked if there was a student who had not understood the material by quiz and after that, I gave students a homework for the next meeting and told them what material that would be discussed in the next meeting.
4.2 Time Management and Activities for Each Meeting
For Mathematics lesson in Lukhamhanwarinchamrab school, students got 2 meeting in a week (1 hours of meeting), for 1 hour of meeting was 50 minutes. Based on what I have mentioned before, before starting for the for the first practice, I would explain the theory a little bit from the material. If there any homework, we must discuss that first before we continue to new topic.
4.3 Problem Solving
There main problems when I taught in classrooms, not all of students could speak English. But every class that I taught have at least one or two student who understand english and explain my lesson again to their friends until their friends understood while i taught.
- Summary and Suggestion
5.1 Purpose of the Teaching Practice
The purpose for teaching practice is for giving a teaching experience for future teachers, and by joining teaching practice overseas in hope to prepare a professional and competent teacher. Other purposes of teaching practice, among others:
- Applying teaching skill
- Making future teacher masters their teaching skill
- Developing social and individual skill of the future teacher
- Developing the competency of learning English
- Understanding school condition overseas
- Gaining experience of teaching students overseas
- Undertanding academic process and non academic process in school overseas
5.2 Outcomes of the Practice
- Having an international experience in developing new competency
- Having a competency to compete in globalization era and industry 4.0
- Being an ambassador of UNDIKSHA in the form of education and culture overseas
- English speaking ability increase
5.3 Challenges of the Practice
The main challenge in this teaching practice was language itself. Not all of the students, teachers, and other people understand English. This obstacle challenged me as a teacher to be able to guide students, make them understand the topics that taught. Moreover, cultural differences pushed me to be a good role model for the students.
5.4 Overall Impression
The teaching practice overseas was excelent and beneficial because I had a new experience to teach students overseas. How to control your emotion and your attitude to Thai students. I also got new knowledge in term of cultures, foods, tourism objects, and others. By joining this program, I was be able to learn a new language too, such as English, little bit Thai, Laos and Turkey language. This program allowed me to have more new friends from other countries. Last but not least, This is my best and amazing experience in my life.
5.5 Suggestion for Future Improvement
For the next university students who want to join this program, firstly you have to prepare your mental and physical health. Because when you spend 1 month overseas, you body has to get used to the weather and foods. In addition, you have to master at least basic English, Thailand or the country that will be used as a place of teaching practice and try to explore the culture in the country
That’s my teaching practice experience in Lukhamhanwarinchamrab School. Its a pleasure for me to join this program. Thankyou. Khxbkhun Khrab.
