Om Swastiastu, hello everyone. Sawaddee krab! this is the greeting I used to hear every day in Thailand, it might sound strange when I hear it for the first time and it will get used to it in the end. It is truly a matter of pride for me as one of the people who passed the selection of hundreds of others to take part in overseas teaching training programs and teach foreign students, Thai students. The teaching atmosphere that I felt was completely different from the atmosphere of teaching in Indonesia, especially in the characteristics of students in the class. Doing teaching exercises abroad is a very valuable experience for me. Besides teaching experience, I also learned about culture, trying Thai specialties, getting to know new people. The following is a report of my teaching practice at Lukhamhanwarinchamrap School:
- General Information.
- School Profile
Lukhamhanwarinchamrab School was founded on 10 June 1974 by Dr. Ko Sawatdi Panich who at that time was the director-general of the Ministry of Education. When it was opened for the first time, the school still used the old school building of Benjama Maharaj behind the Ubon Ratchathani Provincial Hall and was named “Warin Thammakittika School” which came from the name Khun Dharm Kittika which was the first Sherif from the Warin Chamrap district.
Later, Mr. Chareon Panthong, governor of Ubon Ratchathani province at that time changed the name of the school to “Lue Khamharn Warin Chamrap School” based on the name Chao Por Lue Khamharn who was a soldier during Phra Ta’s reign and founder of the Kham Nam Saap District (currently Warin Chamrap).
In the 1976 academic year, classrooms were organized into 25 classrooms, so that the available space was insufficient and forced to divide classes and use different buildings with the main building. On August 3, 1977, the location of the school was moved to its current location in the sub-district of Saen Suk, Warin Chamrap District, Ubon Ratchathani to accommodate all students.
- Academic Facilities
Lukhamhanwarinchamrap School has an area of 99.4 square meters with total facilities of 72 classrooms, art rooms, halls, computer rooms, libraries, sports fields, laboratories, teacher’s rooms, meeting rooms, and other supporting facilities. All facilities in this school are arguably very very adequate and very complete. The most extraordinary facilities are classrooms, where classrooms are very comfortable and have very complete learning support facilities such as air conditioners, loudspeakers, projectors and so on. In addition to learning facilities, this school also has other facilities such as a large parking school vehicle so that it can accommodate student’s and teachers’ vehicles.
- Teaching System
Lukhamhanwarinchamrap School has two levels of education consisting of junior and senior high schools. These two levels of education are called Matrium (Mattayom). At this school, there are six Matrium where Matrium 1-3 for junior high school level and Matrium 4-6 for senior high school level. The learning process at this school starts from 8.30 a.m to 4.00 p.m from Monday to Friday, but in the first month at the beginning of the semester, Tuesday is a holiday the same as Saturday and Sunday. For learning, science is divided into several topics that will be taught in one semester based on fields of study such as biology, physics, chemistry, and astronomy.
2. Pedagogical Contents.
- Teaching Method
There are many teaching methods used by teachers at Lukhamhanwarincamrap School, ranging from direct learning methods, problem-based learning, to project-based learning. The method chosen by the teacher is adjusted to the topic to be taught by the teacher.
- Source of Learning
For learning resources, students usually get a textbook or print out material from the teacher and books that can be borrowed themselves from the school library. Usually, the print out of material provided by the teacher contains practice questions that have been previously prepared by the teacher to be answered by students at the end of learning as an exercise.
- Authentic Assessment
In the assessment process, the teacher gives test questions at the end of the meeting on each topic, middle test, and final exams. In addition to using teacher tests, students also carry out assessments through assignments, projects, and presentations made by students as well as student activity in answering questions raised by the teacher during the learning process.
3. Teaching Plan
- Curriculum
The curriculum used at Lukhamhanwarinchamrap School is a semester program that has been adapted to the Thai Education System World-Class Standard School) so that when I make a lesson plan I have to coordinate with my tutor.
- Lesson Plan
In Thailand, teachers always prepare lesson plans before teaching class as a reference. There are several differences in the lesson plan in Thailand with the lesson plan in Indonesia. In Thailand, lesson plans are simpler and more detailed than lesson plans in Indonesia. But in general, the structure is the same, which consists of an introduction, core activities, and closing.

4. Teaching Practice
- Teaching Procedures in The Classroom
The teaching procedure at Lukhamhanwarinchamrap School is generally the same as the teaching procedure in Indonesia which consists of three stages, namely introduction, core activities, and closing activities. I also use these three stages of learning to teach in class. The procedure is as follows:
- Introduction:
In the preliminary stage, it begins with greetings from students when I enter the class then asks students for attendance, conveys the topics I will teach, and gives apperception related to the topics to be discussed to bring up student interest in learning.
- Core activities:
In the core activity, I deliver material based on learning topics, where previously the scope of the material delivered was shared by me for the first meeting and the next meeting using PowerPoint-assisted presentation methods. Every time I explain one subtopic, I will ask students questions about what I have explained to check students’ understanding.
- Closing:
In the closing activity, before ending the lesson I ask students questions about what they have learned and ascertained whether they understand the material I teach and inform the topics to be learned at the next meeting or give them assignments.
- Time Management and Activities for Each Meeting
For learning science at Lukhamhanwarinchamrap School, students get 2 meetings a week (3 hours meeting), where the one-hour meeting is 50 minutes. At the first meeting, the teacher will explain in detail about the topic being taught, then at the next meeting, the teacher will provide worksheets to students to test students’ understanding of the material that was taught at the previous meeting. I am a little imitating this learning pattern because students are already familiar with the pattern.
- Problem Solving
There are several problems that I encountered when I taught in class one of which is that not all students can use English, sometimes in one class only one person can and understand English. This causes the process of delivering learning material to be hampered and takes a lot of time to explain. To deal with this problem, usually every time I teach accompanied by the teacher as my translator and sometimes I also have to use a translator application.

5. Summary and Suggestions
- Purpose of The Teaching Practice
The purpose of teaching practice is to provide experience to prospective teachers about the situation and the school environment which is the work area of a teacher both in the classroom and outside the classroom, by following an overseas teaching training program, prospective teachers are expected to become professional teachers. As for several other objectives including:
- Apply teaching skills directly at school.
- Help prospective teachers improve their teaching abilities.
- Improve teacher’s teaching ability in English.
- Gain teaching experience with an international curriculum.
- Understand academic and non-academic processes in schools.
- Outcomes of The Practice
- Having international experience in teaching and learning.
- Have the competence to compete in the era of globalization and industry 4.0.
- Challenges of The Practice
The challenge in this teaching exercise is the low ability of Thai teachers and students to use English, of all students and teachers at school, only a few students and teachers can speak English well. Sometimes, when teaching in class I have to speak very slowly so students understand what I’m saying and I also have to use a translator application to translate words they don’t understand.
- Overall Impression
This overseas field experience program is very good, in addition to getting the opportunity to teach foreign students, I also get the opportunity to learn about cultures such as lifestyle, traditional clothing, special foods and much more. By joining this program, I was able to learn that there is still a lot of knowledge out there that I still don’t know, especially teaching methods and the education system.
- Suggestion for Future Improvement
For students who follow this program further, I hope you prepare yourself in many ways such as learning basic words that are very necessary while in the destination country, looking for relevant information about the place to be addressed, and things that should not be done in that country. In addition to providing yourself with information, don’t forget to also prepare mentally and physically before leaving.
I think that’s all the report about my experience teaching practicum at Lukhamhanwarinchamrap School, Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand. I hope that anyone who follows this program will be motivated by the writing that I make.
